WARNINGS: Strong Winds (SE). Wintry Precipitation (Many Areas). Ice (N and W).

SUMMARY: Generally cold and wintry, especially across E regions of the U.K, drier with sunny spells in the W.

SYNOPTIC SITUATION: An area of high pressure is expected just to the NW of the U.K., which is expected to maintain a cold E or NE’ly air mass across many areas of the country.

WIND: E moderate across the NW, N fresh across the NE, NE strong across the SE, NE fresh across the SW & W.

WEATHER: A cloudy start for much of the U.K especially in central and SE areas, however bright or sunny spells will develop for many regions during the period. Wintry showers will affect the E of the U.K. at first; with these falling as more prolonged spells of sleet or snow on high ground at times, while W regions will be mainly dry with some good bright or sunny spells, although with a risk of the occasional wintry shower. It will feel cold in most areas in the NE’ly winds with a risk of ice for N and W regions at first.

TEMPERATURE: Below the average with a risk of ice, and feeling cold in the NE wind.
